Bulk email lands in the unfocused inbox. Personalized email gets replies.

With Mailchimp or ConvertKit, I'd blast a huge segment of our mailing list and watch most of it land in the unfocused inbox. TextForge lets me send personalized emails to the specific customers I care about — and even at a 10% response rate, the data is really good.

The problem with bulk research emails

You want to talk to 50 customers about a new feature. Or survey 100 prospects about their pain points. The standard approach is a campaign tool — Mailchimp, ConvertKit, whatever — and a broad blast across a huge segment of your mailing list. Most of it lands in the unfocused inbox, which kills your response rate. The feedback you get back comes from the most engaged users, which is good, but it's a pain to orchestrate and feels impersonal by nature.

Mass email tools get ignored. People can tell when something was sent through a campaign platform. Email-based research only works when it feels personal, and managing 50 parallel personal conversations manually is a full-time job for a week.

What I do now

Using TextForge, I can craft personalized emails to a segment of customers I think are relevant for the research I'm doing — understanding what we can do to develop better products and services for those market segments. Each email is individualized. It references the recipient's actual relationship with us, not a generic "valued customer" placeholder.

The level of personalization means these land in the primary inbox, not the promotions tab. People actually reply because it doesn't look like a campaign. And I can still contact enough people that even a 10% response rate gives me really good information back.

That level of personalization is simply not possible with standard email marketing platforms. They can swap in a first name. TextForge drafts from the full context of your relationship with each person.
